I went in and had a PET scan this morning. Dr. Marshall wanted this done as some added insurance that there wasn’t any cancer hiding out anywhere the CT scan had missed. If you’ve never seen a scan it’s really fascinating. I never took anatomy so it was nice having one of Dr. Marshall’s interns go over the scan with me. The contrast agent is glucose based which highlights higher metabolism cells like cancer. The scan creates a 3D model and can be looked at from a number of angles or in horizontal slices. Starting at the top of my head and working down through my body it was obvious when we hit the cancer in my esophagus as it showed up like a sun flare, all bright oranges and yellows. Thankfully no nodes lit up and my liver was clear of any tumors.
I go back on 7/16 for pre-op testing and surgery is definitely scheduled for 7/27.
